"Am I driving people off with deleterious introvert radiation?" ROFL!!!! Poor Ellery! I can definitely empathize. I want that on a button now....
As someone who has worked on a university campus for over twenty years, and has had to sit at many an information table (where we're not even asking for people's money, just handing out information!), I keep wanting to lean over and whisper into her ear, "Cookies! You need some 'gimmes.' Students won't check out your table unless they can get free swag. Pizza works best for student bait, or cool promotional items, but if you don't want to cut into your profit margin, get Jamisia to whip up a couple dozen homemade cookies instead. Once you lure 'em in, they might listen to what you have to say and even buy a T-shirt, but it's all about the bait, hon...."
Then again, I work for an office that provides counseling services to students. Almost NO ONE wants to admit in a public venue, in front of their buddies, that they might be in need of counseling services. Put our table in a room with fifty other info tables and watch the students disperse to every other table but ours unless we've loaded up the table surface with candy and "Ten Tips for Dealing With Stress" (it's socially "OK" to admit to being stressed in college). The orientation planners put our info table just inside the front entrance once; as students poured in from the hallway, it was like watching the parting of the Red Sea as they saw our table and tried to avoid it! Parents appreciate us being there, though.
Me and My Muses is a Web comic of 1:6 scale ball-jointed dolls (BJDs), following a young queer woman, Ellery Langrock, and the various magical and sexy characters in her head. New episodes every Monday!
